This tool outputs Enterprise Value only (EBITDA × multiple). It does not subtract net debt to reach equity/purchase value — for that next step, use the Acquisition Price Calculator, which takes the identical EV formula further.
It varies significantly by industry and deal size — this tool doesn't recommend one, it computes EV for whatever multiple you enter (typically sourced from comparable recent transactions or public trading multiples in your sector).
EBITDA multiples are common for mature, profitable businesses since they capture profitability, not just top-line size — revenue multiples (see Revenue Multiple Calculator) are more common for high-growth or pre-profit companies.
The formula still computes a (negative) result, but EBITDA multiples are generally not meaningful for loss-making businesses — a revenue multiple or other method is usually more appropriate in that case.
