Frequently Asked Questions

Under the FOB Incoterm, the seller bears all costs up to loading the goods onto the shipping vessel (ex-works price, inland freight to the port, export charges) — the buyer takes over responsibility and pays for ocean freight and insurance from that point on.

FOB stops at loading onto the vessel (seller pays inland freight + export charges only). CIF (Cost, Insurance, Freight) goes further — the seller also pays international freight and insurance, which is why CIF is generally the higher price for the same shipment.

Costs like export customs clearance, port handling, and documentation fees incurred before the goods are loaded — enter your actual figure for these based on your freight forwarder's quote.

It's the standard basis for quoting under FOB terms specifically — if you're quoting under a different Incoterm (like CIF or EXW), use the matching calculator instead so the buyer knows exactly which costs are included.
