Frequently Asked Questions

There's no universal rule — many companies structure basic at around 40-50% of CTC, but this varies by employer policy. Enter the percentage your offer letter or payroll uses, or try different percentages to see the trade-off.

A higher basic increases your PF and gratuity contributions (both calculated as a percentage of basic), which boosts long-term retirement savings but reduces your immediate monthly in-hand pay.

This tool works backward from your total CTC and a basic percentage to find basic pay and its PF/gratuity impact. The Gross Salary calculator instead adds up already-known individual components (basic, HRA, allowances) to find your gross.

It increases forced retirement savings (PF/gratuity) at the cost of take-home cash now — whether that trade-off suits you depends on your near-term cash needs versus long-term savings priorities.
